Go Hunting with Nanu Travel

Nanu Travel arranges trophy hunting for musk ox, seal, hare and grouse in winter. All our hunting guides are local, educated trophy hunter guides and experienced hunters .The animals we hunt are used 100%, as they are for all hunts around Ittoqqortoormiit. There is a fee to the Greenland government for the hunt.

Polar bear hunting is only allowed for local hunters. Trophy hunting for polar bear is illegal in Greenland.

The main trophy hunting is for musk ox and seal - hare and grouse is hunted as food supplement doing the hunting trip.

Seal hunting is in May, when the seals are laying on the ice. The trophy hunter stays comfortably in the local guesthouse, and in the morning he is transported by dog sledge to the hunting area. When a seal is spotted, the dog sledge stops roughly 600 m from the seal. Then the white-dressed hunter works their way on foot closer to the seal – stopping if the seal raises its head. When the hunter believes he has reached a proper shooting distance, he shoots from the prone position, and there is normally no time limit. It can be very hard to measure distance on the sea ice, and we therefore recommend laser range finder and flat shooting rifle calibres.The seals are transported home on the dog sledge, and the skin is prepared by local women, who have many years of experience in preparing animal skins.The hunter can either live in the local guesthouse and go out hunting every morning or the hunt can be with at tent camp as base. The tent camp gives the greatest number of actual hunt opportunities. White outfit, laser range finder and rifle can be rented.

Musk ox hunting is in March and starts from the airport, since the airport is close to the hunting area. Guides and dog sledges will travel the 50 km from town to the airport the day before you arrive, so they are waiting when you arrive with your flight.The hunt takes 6 days and ends in the town of Ittoqqortoormiit. All transport is by dog sledge – one sledge for each hunter - and all camping is in tents. When the musk ox is found, a few dogs are let loose so the musk ox herd will stay in a circle. Therefore the shooting range is less than 75 m. According to the law, minimum calibre for the musk ox trophy hunt is 30.06. The caping of the trophy is done in town.
